FAQ

Have Questions?

What materials does social security use to determine my claim?

Social security will use records from acceptable medical treating sources  to determine if you meet a listing of impairments.  We always advise that you see a specialist or expert knowledgeable of your specific impairment or disability.

How long can I expect the process to take?

Unfortunately it is impossible to know exactly how long the process takes.  Your initial decision can take anywhere from 4-6 months with hearing level cases expected to be calendared in the 2nd or 3rd year.

Can I do anything to expedite my claim?

Yes, and communication is key.  Make sure your case manager is aware of any change of contact information, new diagnosis or treating professionals so that the record can be updated immediately.  Special circumstances may also qualify you to move the process along a little faster than usual.

What happens if I am denied at my hearing?

You will have 60 days to file and appeal from the date listed on your notice.  Every case is treated on an individual basis so call to discuss what your outcome would be at this point.

I was denied for insufficient work quarters or credits. What now?

You may still be eligible for benefits.  Folks who are denied Social Security Disability Insurance benefits also called Title 2 benefits are often still eligible to receive Supplemental Security Income or Title 16 benefits.  Please call us to discuss and determine which benefit you may be eligible for.

What extra resources are available while I wait?

Call us today and we will put you in touch with resources or agencies specific to your needs.

What if I don't have any medical evidence?

Social security will send you to one of their doctors, free of charge.  Again, it is always best to see your own specialists.  Call us if you are struggling to get health insurance benefits and we will do our best to assist you.

How long does it take to file my application?

Every case is different, but typically 1 hour or less.
